Positive Psychology for Work
Positive psychology is the study of optimal functioning and applies scientific knowledge and tools to help people and organisations flourish. There is an abundance of evidence to show the link between performance and well-being. Happiness is seriously good for business. Twenty years of research show happiness increases every positive business outcome.
One of the keys to this is the strengths-based approach. People who have opportunities to use their strengths at work perform better, are more productive, engaged and enjoy higher quality of life. There’s a virtuous relationship too. Higher performance leads to greater success which, in turn, leads to greater happiness but not only does success breed happiness but happiness breeds success. Here is one reason alone to invest in the well-being of your workforce.
For leaders the skills of optimistic thinking are a must. The more optimistic you are, the more you inspire confidence in the people you work with and give them the direction they need. Building resilience is also a core need in today’s workplace – how to deal with downturns, bounce back from difficult times and not just survive but thrive.

Amy Brand – Global HR partner, Swiss Re: Veronica Scotti – Chairperson, Public Sector Solutions, Swiss Re. “We worked with Miriam to create a series of virtual sessions on wellbeing and happiness, underpinned by the PERMA model. The sessions were engaging, inspiring, thought provoking and we got lots of unsolicited positive feedback from the team after every session. As a global team (c. 35 people in about 9 locations around the world) going through the global pandemic, this was a wonderful way to come together, collectively learn and focus on our wellbeing. Miriam has been a complete joy to work with – she’s knowledgeable, creative, collaborative and is a true expert in her field. Nothing was too much trouble and she really shaped the sessions bearing in mind the needs of the team.We highly recommend her.”
Commander Karl Santrian, Head of Intrinsic Leadership and Behaviours Team, Defence Academy of Great Britain. “Having recently attended as a delegate on a Positive Psychology Workshop that Miriam delivered to my team at the Defence Leadership Centre, I would thoroughly recommend her professionalism. From my experience, Miriam’s training will be well delivered, captivating, insightful, and very importantly in learning, enjoyable!”

“Miriam is an excellent trainer, and I look forward to learning more from her in the future. Her personable, objective, clear and open style of relating provided the ideal model for participants’ own hopes of substantial and positive change.”
“Please thank Miriam for a great two days and for sharing her time, experience, knowledge and expertise. I found it very thought-provoking and useful on a personal and professional level. It fitted so well with our strengths-based approach and added some useful tools for building optimism and positivity and dealing with depression and anxiety.
I thought it was a packed two days but well-structured and delivered in a way which made us think about our own approach to life and work and consider the evidence around positive change.
I will let things settle over the next week or so and will be feeding back to my team. I feel sure that I will be taking things forward in my personal life and in my work with clients and colleagues.”
